Our Artistic Heritage

Ms. Nadine Debattista Briffa explains:  The aim of the outing for both Grade 10 and 11 was to personally view paintings and sculptures of the most renowned Maltese artists and also international artists. Proceeding through the rooms of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta, I explained how paintings changed through the ages; the way the artist represented the human figure, the drapery folds an the different techniques of the the various artistic movements. It was like traveling in a time machine. In this way the students got a general picture of the evolution of paintings and sculptures of what was happening in the International artistic sphere in relation to Malta. Then the students chose a work/s and tried to sketch them so that they feel closer to past masters. At home they research about the work they sketched particularly the artistic movement of the work and also the technique used by the artist.
