The students in ks. Kwiatkowski Secondary School in Bychawa spent the last few weeks working on the recipes of traditional Polish dishes. After long and heated debate the students led by our teacher Ms. Joanna Ścierzyńska chose three most popular dishes for a starter, main course and a dessert. We hope they look delicious! Just print the recipes and try them out yourselves!

When folk music meets modern music
Maltese folk instuments such as iż-Żaqq (bagpipe), iż-Żummara (reed pipe), il-Flejguta (cane flute), it-Tanbur (frame drum) and iż-Żafżafa (friction drum), were on the verge of extinction by the 1970s. In 1999 Ruben Zahra and his collaborators established the Etnika revival project to establish Malta’s music heritage back to its culture.
We have invited Mr Ruben Zahra to our school. His presentation portrayed a profile of these folk instruments where he illustrated each instrument with live demonstrations
as well as video and audio samples. The presentation also exposed the crafting
techniques and the role of the instruments within the local socio-cultural
context.
Malta’s music heritage reveals an interesting crossroads of North
African, Southern European influences and Byzantine influences.

Around the World in the French classroom!
Grade 11 students of French, who have been studying French for four years, have prepared an oral presentation about the five countries involved in this project. As they carried out research making use of new technologies, presented their photos and information on charts, the students discovered and learnt a lot of things about Poland, Italy, France and Bulgaria but also about Malta itself.
One was able to appreciate the hard work that students have put in their preparation most especially when they explained what they have themselves learnt to the others in French, which is for them a foreign language. This activity was also an opportunity to work as a team.
